Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are looking into a violent incident that broke out late Saturday at Howe Park at the moment authorities were shutting down a large unsanctioned party of hundreds of attendees.
What Led to the Shooting
Sacramento County law enforcement first arrived at the park around 6:30 Saturday evening after obtaining information of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Following that, additional information came in concerning an alleged brawl unfolding near the park.
A law enforcement helicopter searched from above but was unable to locate the reported altercation. However, it was apparent that hundreds of people had congregated at Howe Park without any permit or approval.
The Dispersal and Shooting
Officers began the process of clearing the park by positioning themselves around the crowd and using their vehicle PA systems commanding the assembled crowd to clear out. Approximately 15 minutes were provided for people to comply.
As the crowd was being cleared that an estimated 20 to 25 shots were discharged. Gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies wasted no time in locating gunshot victims.
Those Who Were Hit
Altogether, four individuals were confirmed as gunshot victims. The four individuals — consisting of one woman and three men each apparently in their twenties — were transported to local Sacramento hospitals. Hospital staff indicated that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one suffered minor injuries. As of last report, all four victims survived and were stable.
Metro Fire Sacramento provided support and helped triage shooting victims on location.
Crime Scene Evidence
Most of the gunfire was believed to have been concentrated along the Cottage Way corridor next to the local Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. CSI personnel discovered additional shell casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Round impacts were observed in the wrought iron fence near the Home Depot store. This evidence indicated that at least one of the shooters had been discharging rounds toward the south from along Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot. The Home Depot was put under lockdown while the scene was active. CSI units alongside detectives stayed at the location throughout Howe Community Park shooting 2026 the night.
Suspects Detained
Information relayed over police scanner frequencies revealed that a vehicle identified as a Kia was contacted by law enforcement in nearby Solano County. Four detainees were taken into custody. Deputies were dispatched to Solano County to return them to Sacramento for questioning. Video evidence established that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
